There are five starting classes for Star Wars Saga Edition characters. Determining a character's class is the first step in character building after rolling stats.

The Jedi are an extremely versatile character class, capable of specializing in combat or diplomacy, or walking a middle ground between the two. Jedi are the only Star Wars Saga Edition character class that comes with a built in mentor, and a built in 'age of majority' - a Jedi is a Padawan until seventh level, under the guidance and instruction of a master.

Jedi Character Class

Jedi Class Mechanics

  • Starting hit points - 30 + Con modifier
  • Defense bonus - +1 to all defenses
  • Starting skills - 2 + Int modifier from class list
  • +1 attack bonus per level

Jedi Class Starting Feats

  • Force Sensitivity
  • Weapons Proficiency Lightsaber
  • Weapons Proficiency Simple Weapons

The core book says the Wisdom and Charisma are the most important stats for a Jedi, and Strength and Dexterity are useful. Wisdom is the stat that the Force Use Skill is based on, and several force related Feats are also based on what the character gets as a the Wisdom modifier.

Charisma is certainly necessary for a Jedi focusing on negotiating, politics, and other Consular associated activities. A player building a combat capable Jedi might be better off focusing on Strength or Dexterity over Charisma.

A low Intelligence score can definitely be a detriment to a Jedi, since number of skills and languages a character has is based on the Intelligence modifier, and the Jedi character class starts out with fewer skills then any other character class in Star Wars Saga Edition. Low Constitution probably won't hurt a Jedi too much, they have the highest starting hit points of any other class except Soldier, and roll a d10 at each level to determine hit point increases. Jedi also have access to Force Powers that can counteract low Constitution (allowing them to go days with out sleep, fight off sickness, etc.).

Jedi Class Talent Trees

The Jedi character class has four Talent trees available, in addition to the Force Talent trees available to all force users.

The Consular Talent tree is focused on enhancing character interaction scenes, such as negotiations, getting another character to agree to a plan, etc. Talents in the tree target either enemies, or allies.

The Guardian Talent tree offers a Jedi advantages in combat. One of the Talents the Jedi uses to help his allies fight better, the rest a Jedi uses on himself to make him fight better.

The Sentinel Talent tree has abilities that offer protection against Dark-Side Force users, and bonuses to identifying Dark-Side Force users

Jedi Class Bonus Feats

Jedi have access to nearly 30 bonus Feats, several of which can be taken multiple times, including all Force-related Feats.

Jedi Character Class Credits

Jedi get the lowest credits of any of the Star Wars Saga Edition character classes. They get 100 * 3d4 credits each level.

Special Advantages of the Jedi Character Class

At seventh character level, not class level, Jedi are able to construct their own Lightsaber. Doing so takes 24 hours uninterrupted work, and 1,500 credits for the parts.
