Wow! Claims that Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (FTOD) is like playing a Pixar movie is absolutely true. Insomniac (developer of such tiles as Spyro the Dragon and Resistance: Fall of Man) showed the gaming world just how committed they were to producing high quality games for the PlayStation 3 with its debut of Resistance: Fall of Man. Resistance, considered to be one of the best launch titles for the PS3 in 2006, still holds up to titles currently being released by other developers. Insomniac is in a league of their own and have only themselves to disappoint or set a new standard. True to form they have out done themselves with the PS3 debut of Ratchet and Clank, once again setting the bar very high which is great for players.
Ratchet and Clank FTOD wastes no time plunging players directly into the action. As players get deeper into the epic storyline spanning several alien worlds they’ll be amazed with all the Pixar quality environments, bizarre new enemies, hilarious gadgets and weapons. Experiencing how the “Lombax Secret” unfolds is truly rewarding but as many questions are answered more are raised setting up the next chapter in the epic saga. Ending with an exciting and dramatic cliffhanger was icing on the cake. Returning to the series is the signature humor fans of Ratchet and Clank have come to expect but something that may surprise them with this installment of the franchise is how Ratchet and Clank and the humor have slightly matured.
But what will amaze fans the most is the stunning graphics. Without question, Ratchet and Clank FTOD is the best looking game for the PS3 to date. Supporting HD video output 480p and 720p players should fire this game up on a big screen HDTV to really appreciate it. There’s not enough space to explain just how incredibly beautiful Ratchet and Clank is.
Just as amazing as the graphics is the overall sound. The voice acting is top notch and catapults the entire gaming experience to one of true entertainment. Players will “feel” as though they’re a part of the wacky ride.
Controlling Ratchet and Clank is extremely easy as is the entertaining gadgets and weaponry. The controls are tight and precise.
Ratchet and Clank FTOD is so much fun to play it’ll be hard pressed to find another game to entertain players more than this one. Everything about Ratchet and Clank is entertaining. It’s not so much that you’ll be playing Ratchet and Clank FTOD it’s more like you’ll experience it.
Every so often a game will come along that is worth playing over and over again for the sheer pleasure of it, Ratchet and Clank is that game.
Receiving a perfect 10 is not easy. There are many factors considered when reviewing a game and if there’s one thing not perfect a 10 rating won’t be given. To date (6 years of reviewing) only two other games have every received a 10. Those two games would be Halo 2 and Resident Evil 4. Ratchet and Clank is now part of a very elite club and deservingly so.
