Special thanks to the Penny Press for pulling through once again. I love you so much.

That sums up this week, stayed tuned for the answers in a few days time and another article on words, numbers, or possibly knives and guns, who knows these days.

Now for the rest of the article, I leave you with a letter I wrote to my landlord while residing in Ann Arbor, my senior year of college. Eat that word count.

Of course it will be a two-parter so I can fully utilize the words.

Dear Ms. Landlord,

After receiving the security deposit and checklist for 730 S Don’t You Want to Know St., the former three tenants, Colin Edelman, Jerri Blank, and Sonny Miller have found that we do not agree with many of the items on the checklist. The following list is composed of damages that we are contesting, including our reasons for doing so. Most importantly is the fact that this checklist was composed without any us present.

Kitchen- Window broken $40- This was fully functioning when the last tenant departed.

Dining Area- blind broken $30.

Referring to RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF THE TENANT: Section XIV Your Security Depoist- E. “Money cannot be deducted from your security deposit for the following reasons only: (1) For actual damages to the unit which were the direct result of conduct not reasonably expected in the normal course of living there. Deductions cannot be made for normal wear and tear of the apartment.”

The blinds were raised at the most three times, and due to the fact they were flimsy, about an inch or so chipped off the end of one blind. They were still in working condition after we had left. Therefore, this is considered normal wear and tear.

Bedroom 2 - (middle)

1) carpet- floor trim broken- $35- This was not due to any activity by the tenants. The trimming was already in poor condition upon move in.

2) light fixtures- “on wall broken globe missing” $25. This is very confusing. The globe should be noted as either missing or broken. More importantly, the globe is in the house. It was removed to replace a light bulb and then left in the room.

To be continued…
